AFTERCARE
COSMETIC TATTOO

We like to keep things simple over here. Now that the hard part is over, you can sit back and do nothing - literally. All we want you to do is blot off any fluid forming for the first 24 hours, then begin cleaning morning and night for the next 7 days with an antibacterial cleanser. Your artist will talk you through the aftercare more in depth at your appointment.

Although the post care is easy, it is VERY important to avoid:

  • Getting the treated area wet in the shower. (I know, we told you to clean with water but now we're telling you to keep them dry. It's the AMOUNT of water that's important to avoid. Keep them clean, but do NOT submerge in excessive water or moisture)

  • DO NOT pick or scratch at the dry skin / flakes. Picking can cause scarring and a loss of pigment. Note: After the flakes have completely fallen off, a new layer of healing skin will completely cover the tattoo and it may appear too soft and light for your liking. Be patient, the tattoo isn't done healing yet. Pigment should reappear in 3-4 weeks from this point.

  • DO NOT apply makeup or any products other than cleanser for 7 days.

  • DO NOT use Vaseline, Neosporin, or other petroleum based products. If you need an ointment for healing, we recommend Aquaphore.

  • DO NOT bleach, tint, or dye the treated area for one month following the tattoo.

  • DO NOT use any active skincare products on or around the tattooed area while healing.

  • NO exercising (sweating), vacations, pools, sun exposure for at LEAST 7 days post tattoo.

  • For lips: Avoid contact to the lips. Avoid hot, spicy, or greasy foods. Consume all colorful, hot, or alcoholic drinks through a straw. Apply a thin amount of given ointment or Aquaphore every 2-3 hours, keeping them lightly hydrated.

HEALING STAGES

Day 1-2

Brows are going to look dark, warm toned, swollen/tender. Why? The warmth comes from the skin irritation from tattooing under the pigment (along with pigment formula), so it’s normal to look reddish. They’re going to look dark because you have to reach a level of saturation in order for them to heal with “enough” saturation. The brows fade by 30-40% when healed.

Same concept for Lip Blush, Eyeliner, and Freckle tattoos, the color will look really bold and opaque.

Day 3-5

Flaking and scabbing has begun. However, the first step into your aftercare during the first 24 hours was to blot your brows/the tattoo to remove any build up of lymphatic fluid. This fluid is so small to the human eye, but it's still encouraged to blot your brows/tattoo regardless of seeing the fluid or not. Why? Removing lymphatic fluid prevents that fluid from hardening and creating chunky thick scabs. Chunky thick scabs would promote pulling out picking; thus healing light and patchy. Cleansing the brows/tattoo is still important, but do not pick or pull off any scabs that aren't already detached naturally.

Day 6-7 (can last up to 2-3 weeks)

This is the light stage. The flaking and scabs have shed off, and it’s revealed a new layer of skin that can look shiny and most importantly; really light in pigment. Why is that? The skin creates a new layer of skin that is now covering the layer of skin that the pigment is deposited in. The healing skin is denser, as the regeneration processes make the cells closely compacted, so the skin is more opaque, so to say. Until your skin is fully healed, the pigment that is underneath this new skin is going to look very soft and muted in color. It’s important to be patient as artists and clients for 4-6 weeks minimum. Once healed, the color comes back more of a neutral tone and softer than day 1-2.
